Literal meaning: Money Can Communicate Gods

"With money you can do anything", that would be an overstatement but it does drive home the point: Having money will allow you to accomplish a great deal more than if you had none.

Even though one of the characters in this idiom means "gods", this idiom doesn't have anything to do with supernatural powers. The story behind this idiom is about a ruler who was bribed to change his plans. When asked why he allowed his mind to be changed by a mere sum of money, he responded: "Money can move even the gods. It can get almost anything done". Thus a Chinese idiom was born.
