C- is quite difficult for native English speakers to pronounce. C- sounds somewhat like as if ts in cats is being overemphasized greatly. To exercise the pronunciation of c-, you can pratice saying first the ats part of cats, and then pronouncing just the ts part.

-AO sounds much like the ow in cow. But make sure to put as much emphasis on the o-part as on the a-part.

By imitating the sounds as heard in the Standard Mandarin software, with the pronunciation description in mind, you will soon master Mandarin Chinese.
